Changes to Ruyazo, as they happen.
One key instead of three
Capturing used to mean holding Ctrl and Shift and then finding a number. It is now a single key: F6 for an area, F7 for the whole screen, F8 to record an area and F9 to record everything.
If you already changed a shortcut to something you liked, it stays exactly as you set it. Only the ones still on the old default have moved.
On a laptop whose function row is set to volume and brightness you may need to hold Fn. If that is in the way, open Settings, click the field and press whatever suits you better.
Decide who can open each link
Every upload now has its own settings. Public puts it on your profile, unlisted keeps it off every list while the link still works, and private means only you. Unlisted stays the default, so every link you have already shared works exactly as it did.
You can also make a share link: a second link to the same file that you can hand to one person and revoke later, without touching anything else. Give it a password, an expiry date, or both. A share link opens a private upload too, which is how you send one file to one person without opening it up to anyone holding the original link.
Your library got a search box, filters for images, videos and visibility, and sorting by date, size or views. And there is a proper download page now at ruyazo.com/download that knows which system you are on.
Ruyazo has moved to ruyazo.com
Ruyazo started on ruyazo.nl, as something we built for ourselves. It stopped being only ours a while ago. People outside the Netherlands are sharing links with it every day, and a .nl address had started to look like a local tool rather than what this has become.
So we moved. Ruyazo now lives at ruyazo.com.
Links you have already shared keep working. Nothing about your account, your uploads or the desktop app changes, and there is nothing you need to do.
Protect your account with two-step verification
Your account can now ask for a second thing at sign in, on top of your password. Open Profile, choose Set it up, and scan the QR code with Google Authenticator, 1Password, Authy or anything else that reads one.
Nothing switches on until you type a code back, so a half-finished setup cannot lock you out. Once it is on you also get eight recovery codes. Each one signs you in once, for the day your phone is not around.
If you use the desktop app, it keeps working. It signs in through your browser, which means it goes through the same second step you just turned on.
Recordings can now run to five minutes
Screen recordings used to cut off after half a minute, which was enough to show a bug and not much else. They now run to five minutes.
While you record, a bar sits under the selection with the elapsed time and how much of the five minutes is left. You can pause and carry on, and paused time does not count. There is a Done button when you are finished and a cancel button when the take was no good, which throws it away rather than uploading it.
Recordings are also compressed after they arrive, which takes about three quarters off the size of a typical one without you noticing a difference.
Capture across every monitor at once
Selecting an area used to stop at the edge of one screen. Now the selector covers your whole desktop, so you can start a drag on one monitor and finish it on another.
That works for recordings too. Windows offers no single source covering every screen, so Ruyazo opens one per monitor and stitches them together as it records. You get one video of the rectangle you drew, wherever it happens to sit.
The selector no longer freezes your screen either. It dims, but everything underneath keeps moving, and the capture is taken the moment you let go.
The desktop app is here
Ruyazo now has its own app for Windows, macOS and Linux. It sits in the tray and takes a screenshot or starts a recording on a hotkey, uploads it, and puts the link on your clipboard. No save dialog, no folder, no filename.
A single key each: F6 grabs an area, F7 the whole screen, F8 records a region and F9 records everything. All four can be changed: click the field in Settings and press whatever you want instead.
Signing in happens through your browser. The app never sees your password, and you can disconnect a device from your profile at any time. It also keeps itself up to date, so you will not have to come back here to download it again.
